Cakes in Full Bloom: A Craftsy Class Review

Cakes in Full Bloom Class

From the moment I first saw this class at Craftsy, it was on my wishlist to take.  Who doesn’t love a glittery, girly, flowery cake?   I know I do and Erin Gardner’s cakes in the Cakes in Full Bloom class have it all!!

Here’s the description from Craftsy:

Use modern design principles and cake artist Erin Gardner’s smart techniques to create radiant, floral-inspired cakes. You’ll make statement flowers like the open peony, honeycomb dahlia and trendy ranunculus, as well as fun fillers like billy balls, eucalyptus leaves and hellebore flowers. Then, decorate Erin’s Confetti Cake, covering one tier with vibrant rainbow confetti and the other with an understated pattern of matte dots set against a shimmering background. Decorate the I Heart Cake with a top tier encrusted in gold sequins and a bottom tier of horizontal stripes with inset hearts. Bring the Monoglam Cake to life with a gilded topper, vertical stripes and a Swiss dot pattern of gilded bows. Complement enticing cake designs with vibrant sugar-flower arrangements that make an irresistible showpiece for any event.

What I loved most about this class is Erin Gardner’s teaching style.  She’s very down-to-earth, easy to understand and her techniques aren’t complicated or fussy.

The very first thing you’re going to learn in this class is how to design and arrange flowers on a cake so that they are most visually appealing.  Honestly, I don’t have any prior training in formal design, so I really appreciated having someone show and tell me exactly what things to consider when sketching a cake and putting together an original design.

In addition to that, her tutorials for making beautiful flowers and flower arrangements makes it feel so doable.   She covers several different types of show-stopping flowers along with filler flowers and ways to put them together in different arrangements.  Her simple explanations really make it clear even for a novice cake decorator.

And then, when all that is said and done,  Erin demonstrates each step of making three stunning cakes!  They’re complete with bold colors and beautiful flowers and each has it’s only frilly touch with sequins or confetti. Sign-up for this class here

Gold Sequined cake

If nothing else, the whole class was worth it for her simple and super easy way to do this gold sequined look!    While I absolutely adored all three completed cakes – this one is for sure my favorite!

The bold black and white stripes are so easy to do with her upside-down method and again… the beautiful flower and the gold tier just push the design over the top!  I’m completely smitten with this cake!

Cakes in Full Bloom

If you’re looking to take your cakes to the next level with stunning flowers, bold colors, and the sparkle of sequins and shimmer dust – this class is definitely for you!    If you’re not sure, why not just sign up with Craftsy (it’s free!) and try one of the free mini courses first?  You have nothing to lose!

Happy Caking!
