		<description><![CDATA[As spring approaches so does the wedding season and afternoon teas on the patio. So what could be more perfect than these cupcakes? Vintage bird cages are all the rage at the moment whether it be wall paper, table decor or cake!  Here&#8217;s how to make one. Here&#8217;s what you will need: Coloured fondant icing Bowl of non-coloured buttercream (not pictured) Cupcakes (pictured below) Large circular pastry cutter (size depends on your cupcake size, so you will have to play around to find the size to fit yours) Green food colouring Toothpick Spatula Small bag white royal icing with a round tip (I used a Wilton no. 4 tip) Small bag of green royal icing with a very small leaf tip (I used a Wilton no. 65 tip) Parchment/greaseproof paper Step 1: Make and cook your cupcakes. 		<description><![CDATA[This is my favourite cupcake recipe. Amazingly moist, with beautiful tropical flavours from the pineapple, banana and coconut. The passionfruit in the icing gives it some tartness which cuts the richness of the cream cheese. Every time I make it, I am asked for the recipe so I thought I would share it here. Enjoy! Please note, I have included the recipe here with and without photos for printing. This is what I used: Silicone flower pot cases (these ones were purchased in Lakeland) Buttercream Glass of water Paint brush Rolling pin Some coloured fondant, I have used, red, yellow and lilac Green food colouring gel and a toothpick for adding colour Medium rose petal cutter Medium and small blossom flower cutter Bow (optional) Edible rice paper butterfly (optional) Step 1: Using your cupcake recipe, make up the batter and fill the pots half to three-quarters full and bake in the oven. Remove and leave to cool Step 2: Colour the buttercream green, by dipping a cocktail stick in the food gel colour and adding to the buttercream and mix well. One of the techniques covered in the book is how to make chocolate transfers. These edible decorations can be made weeks in advance. They can be made large for an impressive cake topper or small for a fun cupcake topper. The fluidity of the chocolate lends itself to fine-line designs that can be hard to replicate in other ways. You should know these basic tips before working with chocolate: Do not get any water in the chocolate because it will make it seize. Because of the water issue, you cannot use gel food colors in chocolate. Instead, you must use candy colors, which are oil-based. Follow the directions to heat your chocolate in the microwave in short intervals. It burns easily. You must print a &#8220;mirror image&#8221; of your design. I thought I would show you how to make a beautifully romantic ruffled rose with a subtle difference: it is in the shape of a heart! These pretty little decorations can be used as cupcake toppers, placed around the sides of an iced cake or supported by a straw or skewer and used as a cake topper. A classic vanilla cupcake filled with a little strawberry jam and a fluffy spread of white meringue frosting on top. I used an apple core to remove some of the cupcake before filling with the jam. The sweet pink strawberries and white flowers are made out of gum paste. 		<description><![CDATA[This is a tutorial on how you can make the cupcake, that I made as a part of a competition cake back in 2008. You can see the original cupcake here The cupcake was made using Rice Krispie Treats (RKT) and rolled fondant. The RKT is light and it can be a good option to use if it seem to hard to carve the piece out of cake. It can also be a good alternative to polystyrene. To get a smooth surface when using RKT. Many like to use a little buttercream to fill out any small holes. I just cover it twice with rolled fondant. You can of course use buttercream if you like. I looked around in my cupboards and found a coffee cup and a small bowl that matched together in size. A clean (new) flower pot also have a good shape for the cupcake base. Since Valentine&#8217;s Day is soon approaching, I thought that some pink fondant hearts and a little pink sprinkle on the cupcakes would be in place. I have frosted them with Angel Feather Icing, which is good together with the chocolate cupcakes. You can find the recipe for Angel Feather Icing below. Angel Feather Icing Ingredients. 2 large egg whites 170 g (3/4 cup) of white sugar 1 dl (1/3 cup) corn syrup 2 Tbsp cold water 1/4 tsp cream of Tartar (alternative you can use 1 tsp fresh lemon juice) 1/4 tsp salt 1 tsp vanilla extract or almond extract Optional: Food coloring Direction. Place all the ingredients except but the vanilla into the top of a double boiler with fast-boiling water below. Take your handheld electric mixer and beat the mixture until the icing has stiff peaks. Remove the double boiler from heat, add the vanilla extract and keep on beating until it is thick, glossy. You can add drops of food coloring if you like. 		<description><![CDATA[There are tons of recipes for the most classic cupcake of them all. The vanilla cupcake! I have lost track on how many different recipes, that I have tried to myself. Some were good, some were bad and some failed to a disaster. There are many different opinions on what makes a good vanilla cupcake. So, no wonder why there are thousands of vanilla cupcake recipes out there. I went through a stack of old recipes, and I were thrilled to find an old recipe for vanilla cupcakes. I remember them as a bit too greasy but with a good taste. So I decided to make some small modifications to the recipe and made a test batch. They came out great. A perfect vanilla cupcake! That bake perfect too. Half of the paper cases were filled with a heaped tablespoon of batter and the rest were filled 3/4 full. They are good without frosting but they are certainly also good with a nice swirl of frosting on top. So far, I have tried them with Angel Feather Icing. It is a really good combination. 		<description><![CDATA[I have been waiting to show you my latest cake. A two tier cake, decorated with owls, hearts and flowers for a girls Christening party. The flavor combinations for the cakes were: Dark chocolate mud cake, raspberry mousse and chocolate ganache. Crumb coated with Italian Meringue Buttercream and covered with rolled fondant. For the younger guests of the party. I baked some vanilla cupcakes with a spread of royal icing, sprinkles and fondant flowers. All matching the color scheme of the Christening cake. I made the owls by using an egg shaped cookie cutter and used the pointy end of the egg cutter to cut off the top of the &#8220;egg/owl&#8221;. 		<description><![CDATA[I could not wait to try, decorating some cupcakes with the sweet Easter cupcake toppers that I made last week. So I went into the kitchen and baked some Lemon vanilla cupcakes, piped with delicious fluffy yellow meringue frosting. I placed the cupcake toppers flat on the frosting and decided to also use some leftover gum paste daffodils together with the blue cupcake toppers. A very sweet combination that made a nice Easter Treat. I really love the endless possibilities there are with the cupcake topper disc. 		<description><![CDATA[A new tutorial for more Easter cake decoration. This time I have made something for the cupcakes. Pretty fondant discs with a little yellow chick motif on top. I have seen lots of premade Easter sugar decorations in the cake decorating shops and came up with these super cute fondant cupcake toppers. This is what I use: Rolled fondant icing: yellow and blue (you can of course change the &#8220;disc&#8221; color if you like) Rolling pin Tylo glue Cornstarch duster Tylo powder Round scallop cookie cutter 2 1/4&#8243; Black food writing pen Small amount of orange and leaf green royal icing in disposal piping bags. (1 tbsp of each color is more than enough for 12 cupcake toppers) Round piping tip no.2 Small thin brush Plastic tray Step 1: Take some rolled fondant icing in the color that you will be using for the discs. Add a little Tylo powder about 1/2 tsp and knead in the Tylo powder. This will help the fondant disc to dry faster. It will also delay it going soft when placing it in the frosting. 		<description><![CDATA[I love lemon curd. So when I was making a jar of homemade lemon curd the other day, I just had to bake some cupcakes and use the silky smooth lemon curd as a filling. I ended up with these delicious lemon vanilla cupcakes. Do I need to tell you, that they were oh so good? The fresh lemon zest, the seeds from the vanilla bean, the delicious sweet and tart lemon curd. All together with the sweet white meringue frosting on top. They were a hit! This cupcake will be just as good without the filling. Maybe with a Italian Meringue Buttercream flavoured with lemon curd on top, instead of the white frosting. I would also love to try these cupcakes just plain, with a spread of royal icing. I went for a quick decoration with some yellow shimmering non-parelis and a small petunia flower I have used a 11mm star tip for the swirl (the same tip that I used for the confetti cupcake) and the color for the flower are Wisteria from Squires Kitchen. 		<description><![CDATA[I have been baking today, simply because I needed something sweet and sugary. I ended up with a batch of light chocolate cupcakes with a white meringue frosting on top. It is a really good flavour combination those two. If you are looking for a 100% white frosting, the white meringue frosting is a really good choice. The white meringue frosting holds up really well too. I had a couple of left overs and after a couple of hours they still looked nice. The only thing is that the frosting will crust over time, but it still taste good. To dress them up, I used some bright and colorful sprinkles to give the final touch. Simple and classic! 		<description><![CDATA[A while agoe, I made some cupcake paper toppers and as promised here is a little tutorial on how to make them. Visit your craftstore, to find all sorts of paper punches, embellishments, ribbons and scrapbooking paper to make unique cupcake paper toppers to decorate your cupcakes. I have only used circle and scallops punches, but you can of course use almost all sorts of paper punches for this project. This is what I use: Paper punches, my blue scallop punch are 2&#8243;. Use the size you find right for your cupcakes. Craft glue stick Hot glue gun Scrapbooking/craft paper Ribbon Pair of scissors Cookie/lollypop sticks (wood or paper) Optional: Crepe paper Needle &#38; cotton thread 3D adhesive foam squares Embellishments: Scrapbooking brads, beads, paper scraps ect. 		<description><![CDATA[As a follow up to the questions about the ribbon bow that was on my Valentine&#8217;s cake. Have I made a tutorial on how to make a ribbon bow for your cake. Remember to prepair your cake for the ribbon, by getting a nice and straight crumb coat -before the fondant cover. A side scraber is a great tool to use for that. This is what I use: Ribbon Measuring tape Scissors Piping gel Small brush Double sided tape And of course a cake. Step 1: Measure around the cake and add 1/2&#8243; extra, so that the ribbon can overlap. Cut the lenght of ribbon that you will be needing. Step 2: Brush a thin coat of piping gel around the base of the cake. Let the piping gel dry until just slightly tacky. Step 3: Add the ribbon around the cake and make sure that it is all smooth. Brush a little piping gel on one of the ribbon ends and &#8220;close&#8221; by overlapping. Note: I prefere to have the overlap at the &#8220;back&#8221; of the cake. 		<description><![CDATA[This is the last part of my little &#8220;cupcake decorating school&#8221;. The final part is about how I pipe my swirls on my cupcakes. Not saying that this is the &#8220;right&#8221; way, but it is the way that works the best for me. There are many different types of swirls to pipe on cupcakes. Often the final result depend on which type of decorating tip you are using. Please see Cupcake decorating part 1 where I write about the decorating tips. If you are new on how to pipe swirls on cupcakes or simply just want to perfecting your swirl techniques. Practice is the only way to do it. With some cupcakes and a batch of buttercream you can pipe swirls, scrape off the buttercream and start over again (of course re-using the buttercream) I have built up the swirl in three parts, to make it more easy to see and hopefully understand So here goes: Step 1: I have used a star tip with a 11mm opening and filled the pipingbag with Italian Meringue Buttercream. My first thought was that this would be the last of my little personal good to know about (my) cupcakes posts. But as this is all about buttercream domes and fondant discs, I have decided to make an extra part 4 with focus on the swirls. I hope you done mind that? Previous posts part 1 &#038; 2: Cupcake decorating part 1 Cupcake decorating part 2 So today&#8217;s post is about how you can turn a &#8220;flat&#8221; cupcake into a pretty domed cupcake perfect for a fondant disc. If you dont like a buttercream dome, you could then bake some cupcakes using the great vanilla cupcake recipe that will make a beautiful dome and the need for buttercream is very small, if you want to decorate with a fondant disc. You can of course substitute the buttercream with a chocolate ganache. Only make sure that you use 1 part cream and 2 parts of chocolate, as this ratio sets perfectly overnight without the need for refrigerating (btw, I got the tip from this excellent dvd). 		<description><![CDATA[What a busy busy week. First my daughters birthday party for the girls in her class. We had baked cupcakes, made pretty icing, gum paste flowers and sprinkles to decorate with. They had a ball decorating the cupcakes and I think they all did a fantastic job. Today I am going to the Scandinavian Cake Show in Sweden and here are my two dummys for the &#8220;table of honour&#8221;. I am not statisfied with the icecream cake as it was supposed to be something completely different. I think I changed the design three times before it ended up like this, still not happy with it (I know that I should be). So because of that, I made a quick replica of the birthday cake for my daughter simply because I ran out of time and it was getting very very late. 		<description><![CDATA[I am ready with cupcake decorating part 2 and this is all about my favourite cupcake recipes. Let us start with the cupcakes that I have received most questions about, the pink cupcakes (top picture in this post). It is all about the dome. My best way to get a dome on cupcakes is not to cream the butter and the sugar, but to whisk the eggs and sugar and melting the butter with the milk, thats about it. Of course this method will change the texture of the cupcake to a more light and airy cupcake, but if the cupcake is going to be dipped in poured fondant this method is perfect. That means, that with one recipe I can get &#8220;two&#8221; kinds of cupcakes. So what recipe is it then? It is the great vanilla cupcake recipe  from Joy of Baking, a fantastic baking site with many great cake and cupcake recipes btw. Other cupcake recipes can of course also make great domes but when it comes to poured fondant, vanilla cupcakes is my fave to choose. So let me show you how this recipe works. 		<description><![CDATA[Over the last few days I have been preparing at little cupcake decorating guide to show you a little more on how I make my cupcakes. What cupcake tools I like to use, favourite cupcake recipes, how I build up a buttercream dome, so that I can decorate my cupcakes with rolled fondant and how I pipe my buttercream swirls. So let us begin with my favourite cupcake tools. Cupcake pans: I mostly use a regular standard sized cupcake (muffin) pan and a mini cupcake (muffin) pan to bake my cupcakes in. When I bake cupcakes I only have 1 pan in the oven at a time, except with the mini pans where I can can bake 24 in one go. Cupcake paper cases: One thing that I dont like when I bake cupcakes is the paper cases that look greasy and translucent after baking. A lot of paper cases does that. So I was happy when I found a brand that makes greaseproof paper cases and that even keeps the color after baking. I think that it is the best cupcake paper case ever! 		<description><![CDATA[As you all remember I forgot to take photos of the cupcakes that I had made for my brother and SIL wedding reception. I felt so bad about it, so when the kids and I was in the mood for cupcakes yesterday I decorated three of them. ¨ I did the decoration like I had done it for the reception, with some left over gum paste flowers. So here they are&#8230;&#8230; well these are all chocolate ones as I did three different flavours: White vanilla mud chocolate, dark chocolate mud and banana. They were all decorated like here with a spread of royal icing and decorated with gum paste flowers and sprinkles. My fist idea was to make some with fondant tops, but the heat that day made me change my mind to make a more safe and non-sticky decoration, as royal icing stays the same when dry even though the banan cupakes are so good with chocolate frosting I went with chocolate royal icing wich is also nice on banana cupcakes. 		<description><![CDATA[During the transfer to a new web host last year, one post did not make it through. It was the post about the best banana cupcakes. So I thought I would write a new post about them (photo is old) simply because they are so good and because if you love a good banana cupcake or cake? then you should try out this recipe. Be sure to add a nice chocolate frosting or glaze on top. I got the recipe from one of my flickr friends Kathryn and I am sure that she dont mind me sharing it with you Banana cake or cupcakes: 125g (4oz + 1 tbsp) butter 175g (6oz) sugar 2 eggs 2 large mashed ripe bananas 1 tsp Baking soda 2 Tbsp boiling milk 1 tsp baking powder 225g (8oz) flour Cream butter &#38; sugar till light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time. Mix in mashed bananas. Add baking soda that has been dissolved in hot milk. Lastly mix in sifted flour &#38; baking powder. Dont overbeat the batter. 		<description><![CDATA[I decided today I would finally try out my new cupcake pan. So with all the ingredients ready I started and thought that it would be fun for you to see how it works I used the recipe that comes with the pan, a vanilla butter cake. I baked it on 325 F (165 C) for about 1 hour and 30 mins. At that moment the &#8220;swirl&#8221; part was done but the bottom needed 15 minutes more. So I placed a piece of tinfoil over the cakes for the last 15 minutes. The cakes went out of the tin very easy. I carved off a little bit of the &#8220;swirl&#8221; to get it more levelled and assembled the cakes with IMBC. All left was to add the IMBC to the top. Not an easy job to do as I had to do it over two times. First a light crumb coating and then I placed it in the refrigerator for 15 minutes so that it would harden before I added the last layer. So of course I had to try them out myself The pink wrappers are made by Lisa Mudrakoff from Vancouver. 		<description><![CDATA[We have had the most fantastic warm summer weather. So standing in the kitchen with the oven on have not been on my agenda lately. But I have pulled myself together to make some cupcakes for a little cupcake project on the Cakes &#38; More forum. So I have made three different cupcake decorations 1. swirl. 2. embossing and 3. animals The swirls did not turn out the best because the whipped chocolate ganache that I used did not like the heat and curdled alot. For the sweet blue cupcakes have I used a small embossing stick from Holly Products. I topped them with small sugar roses and leaves. The sticks are also great to use on fondant decorated cookies. The cute little turtle is made out of modelling paste = ready made fondant about 8 oz. mixed with 1 tsp. of Tylo Powder and kneaded well. But I have also another cupcake project comming up in fact I am just about to get started on it. 		<description><![CDATA[My favorite cupcake combo at the moment is chocolate cupcakes with loads of marshmallow frosting on top. So here are some of my latest cupcake treats. First, cupcakes decorated with candy canes and home colored sprinkles.
