Do you guys remember the bunny toppers I made a few weeks ago? Well, I wanted to do something related to bunnies again coz honestly, they are TOO CUTE and great for Easter celebrations! Hehe. This time, I made a bunny cake! The cake is very simple to make and it’s perfect for anyone who is scared to use fondant or does not like fondant. The cake is covered in coconut to give the bunny a “furry” look and all the facial details are made with jelly candies…YUM! This is what I used: Shredded coconut (Not the toasted kind. It has to be white) Purple, red and green jelly candies (or you can use fondant in the same colors) White buttercream icing Spatula (to spread the icing all over your cake) Turntable Cake board (should be the same size as your cake) Rolling pin Granulated sugar (to prevent stickiness when working with jelly candies) Cardboard ears Scissors 2 popsicle sticks Round cake-6×3 (in any flavor) Black edible marker Step 1: Place your cake on a cakeboard. Now, place this cake on your turntable. Use a spatula to cover your cake in buttercream icing. Step 2: Cover your cake in shredded [...]

Spring is finally on its way and Easter is just around the corner, so this leads me to think about all the cute baby animals that we will soon be seeing. To celebrate, I have created a round Easter chick, which is a lot of fun to make and look at. You can also make it as simple or as detailed as you like, depending on how much time you have. This is what I used: Cake batter, enough for a 7″ round sponge cake Jam, buttercream and white chocolate ganache Ball tin (I used a 6″ diameter ball tin) Baking sheet Baking parchment and trex/butter to line the tins 3 x drinking straws plus scissors to trim Thin cake board, 1″ narrower than diameter of your cake Knives for cutting cake and icing, plus a palette knife Rolling pin and cornflour to dust work surface Orange and yellow fondant icing, plus a small amount of white for the eyes Small circle cutter and black edible pen for eyes Optional extras: large circle cutter for wings, leaf cutters for details Step 1: Grease and line the two halves of the ball tin. I find that a strip around the edge and [...]

With Easter just around the corner, my kids are already pulling our their plastic eggs and baskets and getting ready to celebrate! With that in mind, I wanted to come up with a fun, but easy cake pop that I could make with the kids for Easter… the result was Carrot Cake Pops! Wouldn’t they be a fun treat for the Easter Bunny to snack on? Here’s what you’ll need to make these adorable little treats: Cake Ball Dough, I colored mine orange! Orange Candy Melts (or white chocolate colored orange) Lollipop Sticks Small Squeeze Bottle with #2 or #3 Frosting Tip Xacto Knife Green Shoelace Candy (I used Twizzlers Green Apple Pull ‘n Peel Candy) Cone Shaped Cake Ball Mold (optional, mine came from mylittlecupcakepop.com) Now, let’s make some cake pops! Step 1: Shape your cake dough into carrot shapes! There are two ways to do this – by hand, or with a cone mold. To do it by hand, you’ll want to take a small ball of dough and roll it into an egg shape about the size of a walnut. Step 2: Roll out one end to a point for the bottom of the carrot. [...]

I’m going to show you how to dress up your cupcakes this Easter with these darling toppers. The kids (and adults) will love them! You can make them well in advance since they will keep for weeks/months. Store them in a breathable box or container away from humidity and pests – a ordinary cake box is usually sufficient. This is what I used: Rolled fondant in various colours for the eggs Rolled fondant in yellow for chick White fondant for egg Brown fondant for nests Orange/red fondant for beak (gum paste may be used instead of fondant) Extruder with the disc insert as pictured below Rolling pin Circle cutter or any shape Knife or scissors to cut fondant from extruder Flower form cups, enough for the amount of toppers you are making (or rotate once the nests are dried) Small paint brushes Edible ink pen (optional) to decorate eggs Luster dust (optional) to decorate eggs Gum paste glue, made with gum paste and boiling water (optional as you can just use plain water, but glue is stronger) Tylose powder – add a little to the fondant to help it dry harder. Not much is needed, for example a handful of [...]

My favorite animal is a bunny. Growing up, I even had one as a pet … a pretty white rabbit. That little cutie was the inspiration behind today’s post. Obviously, my little pet bunny wasn’t blue but I would have loved to paint him blue if my mom had allowed me …hehe. These bunny toppers can be made in any color you want and can be used to decorate cakes or cupcakes. They would also be great for decorating your Easter treats This is what I used: Light blue 50/50 (or you can use fondant but that will take longer to dry) Pink 50/50 (or you can use fondant but that will take longer to dry) Lollipop sticks Melted chocolate to stick the bunny to the lollipop stick Paintbrush Small cup of water Large heart cutter (from the Wilton heart cutter set) Large circle cutter (from the Wilton circle cutter set) Smallest circle cutter (from the Wilton circle cutter set) Smallest oval cutter (from the Wilton oval cutter set) Toothpick Knife Rolling pin Cornstarch or powdered sugar for dusting your work area Black edible marker Round confetti sprinkles (for the eyes) Step 1: Roll out the light blue fondant. Use [...]

The last of my three Easter cake tutorials. A cute little Easter bunny cake! I have made a fondant grass border instead of a ribbon this time. This Easter bunny cake would be a fun project to make for kids, since the bunny is made using basic tools. If you like, you can add more decorations to the cake like small flowers and Easter eggs in the grass? Again, scale down the design to a smaller cake by leaving out the “Happy Easter” lettering on the cake. This Easter bunny cake would be perfect together with my bunny cookie pop’s. This is what I use: 10″ fondant covered cake (I have used Egg yellow from Americolor) Rolled fondant icing Food gel colors (brown, pink & green) Fmm Funky Alphabet & Numbers + Funky Alphabet lower case set (Other types of lettering can be used instead) Cutting wheels (PME) (Alternative, use a small pizza cutter) Scallop and comb (PME) (Drinking straw can be used, if you don’t have such tool) Small modeling tool knife (A table knife can also be used instead) Modeling tool with a pointy end Round cookie cutter 3″ (8 cm) (Alternative, use a drinking glass) Small oval [...]

I am back with the second design for a sweet and easy Easter cake. I have used a fondant covered cake board this time. Instead of a styrofoam fondant covered cake dummy this time. I hope, that you can visualize the design on a “real cake”? The lettering is the same as I used in the Easter cake part 1 tutorial. A smaller sized cake (6″/8″) can be used, but there may not be enough space for the “Happy Easter” lettering on the cake. Also you may need to use a smaller egg cutter too. Use the colors, that you like the best, for this project. This is what I use: 10″ Fondant covered cake Clear pipin gel + brush Ribbon for the cake Fmm Funky Alphabet & Numbers + Funky Alphabet lower case set. Other types of lettering can be used instead Petunia flower cutter (You can also use a 5 petal flower, Primrose and Daisy instead of the Petunia flower if you like Optional: 5 petal flower veiner Strip cutter 180x5mm (Jem) or Multi ribbon cutter (FMM) Rolled fondant (white) Gum paste (white) Food gel colors Large egg cookie cutter about 5″ high Edible glue + brush Small [...]

So I went into the kitchen and baked some Lemon vanilla cupcakes, piped with delicious fluffy yellow meringue frosting. I placed the cupcake toppers flat on the frosting and decided to also use some leftover gum paste daffodils together with the blue cupcake toppers. A very sweet combination that made a nice Easter Treat. I really love the endless possibilities there are with the cupcake topper disc.
A new tutorial for more Easter cake decoration. This time I have made something for the cupcakes. Pretty fondant discs with a little yellow chick motif on top. I have seen lots of premade Easter sugar decorations in the cake decorating shops and came up with these super cute fondant cupcake toppers. This is what I use: Rolled fondant icing: yellow and blue (you can of course change the “disc” color if you like) Rolling pin Tylo glue Cornstarch duster Tylo powder Round scallop cookie cutter 2 1/4″ Black food writing pen Small amount of orange and leaf green royal icing in disposal piping bags. (1 tbsp of each color is more than enough for 12 cupcake toppers) Round piping tip no.2 Small thin brush Plastic tray Step 1: Take some rolled fondant icing in the color that you will be using for the discs. Add a little Tylo powder about 1/2 tsp and knead in the Tylo powder. This will help the fondant disc to dry faster. It will also delay it going soft when placing it in the frosting. Roll out the fondant to a 2-3mm thickness and cut out the discs. Step 2: Take the round piping [...]

I have decided not to make a frilly trumpet for my version, but it is possible to do so, if you like. It looks good when the daffodil flowers are made in different yellow color tones. This is what I use: Yellow gum paste Rolling pin Pointed 6 petal cutter. I have used Fritillary 658 (55mm) from TinkerTech Two Cutters Cornstarch duster. Use it, if the gum paste is a little sticky. Tylo glue Small brush P.M.E no.9 tool JEM tool no.12 petal veiner/Friller Tray for the flowers to dry in. I have used an apple foam tray (not showing on the photo) Step 1: Knead your gum paste and roll it out to 2mm thickness with your rolling pin. Cut out the 6 petal flower. Tip! Keep the flowers in a plastic bag if you plan to cut out more flowers. This will prevent them from drying out. Step 2: Use the veining tool on the petals. Step 3: Place the petals in the apple tray.
Which holiday is your favourite? Mine is definitely Easter. For that reason I have decided to start out early with the Easter treats this year. I think I like Easter so much because it’s in the spring where the days gets longer, the weather gets warmer and everything starts to bloom. With Easter and spring on my mind, I got the idea of making some Easter egg shaped cake pops, coated with chocolate and decorated with sugar sprinkles. All in nice light colors to get the feeling of springtime. The cake pops are made from the same “dough” as I use for my cake bites. For coating, I used Merckens candy melts, but you could use any type of chocolate, made for coating. Using chocolate for cake decorating, is not something I do very often. Adding to this, the candy melts is a bit more tricky to melt than regular chocolate. This made it quite a challenge to get the covering of the cake pops just right. After some hair pulling and swearing, I finally got the hang of it. Here is a few of the things that worked well for me. After making the cake pops and putting them [...]

I was in the kitchen yesterday and made these mini egg cakes. I used the mini egg cake pan from Wilton. Inside is my favourite vanilla cake and I have used this petit four icing to coat them with. I decorated them very simple with only a royal icing scroll, some piped leaves and a little yellow flower. Sweet and simple but also a bit time consuming. I wish you all a Happy Easter! Happy Caking! Louise

I have been working on how I could make some fluffy bunny cookie lollies for Easter. I ended up with these happy bunnies, decorated with rolled fondant and royal icing piped fur. The fur gave one problem though, a constantly cloggin tip. I received a comment about the exact problem from one of the readers, so it is not just me, that have this problem. I had to clean the tip with water a few times, which was a bit annoying. What is it that makes the fur tip clogg so easily? Its not on the inside, its more on the outside of the tip? If you know a trick, when it comes to clogging fur tips, then please do share. Ok, back to the bunnies! I did not add any whiskers in the first place, because I wanted them to be all edible cookies. But that just looked so wrong, when they were done. So I decided to give the bunnies some whiskers afterall using a couple of flower stamens. Of course using unbreakable gel or some thin noodles would have been the best solution. But we will just make sure that the “whiskers” will be removed before we [...]

The Easter bunny is out early, with a little Easter treat to all of you So here is a tutorial on how you can make a sweet basket cookie for Easter. I have decorated my basket cookie with rolled fondant and decorated it with mini eggs and quick mini daffodil flowers. You could also just “fill” it with flowers if you dont want the eggs. The basket cookie would also be perfect as a small Easter favor or you could use it as a place card for your Easter dinner. My baskets cookie have a small hole for the ribbon, but of course it is up to you, how you want to present your Easter baskets cookie. This is what I use: Basket shaped sugar cookies (make the hole with a round cutter or a knitting needle when the cookie is still warm but be careful not to get burned) Basket cookie cutter (Coppergifts) Basketweave embosser (Patchwork Cutters) Rolled fondant icing (white, yellow and in the colors you want for the eggs) Sugarcraft gun with medium round disc Mini egg shaped cookie cutter (1/2″) Green royal icing Piping bag + plastic coupler Leaf tip medium & round tip #2 (PME [...]
