How to make fondant bumble bee cupcake toppers

bumble bee cupcake topper
As a kid, one of my favorite plush toys was a yellow bumblebee. It was soft and cuddly and very cute. That was my inspiration for today’s bumblebee tutorial.

In the past, I have made 3D bumblebees. But I think they are nowhere as adorable as these bumblebees I am sharing today…hehe.

You will need the following supplies:

Yellow fondant
Black fondant
White fondant
Big circle cutter
Small circle cutter
Small heart cutter
Rolling pin
Pizza cutter
Knife
Paintbrush
Tip #12
Corn syrup or gumpaste glue
Black edible marker

Video tutorial

These are the steps:

Step 1:

Start off by rolling out yellow fondant
Then, use the big and small circle cutters to cut out circular pieces.

Step 2:

Next, roll out black fondant and use a pizza cutter to cut out a few thin strips and bend them a little so that they become curved.

Step 3:

Also, use a knife to cut out a small triangular piece and curve the end slightly. This will be the bumblebee’s stinger.

Step 4:

Then, make the antennas by cutting 2 small strips of black fondant and 2 tiny circles. I used tip #12 to make these circles.

Step 5:

Use some corn syrup to stick the circle on top of the strip.

Step 6:

Now, let’s assemble all these pieces.
Brush some corn syrup near the top of the big circle and place your small circle on top of it.

Step 7:

Stick the black strips on the big circle by brushing some corn syrup.
Cut off all excess on the sides with a knife.

Step 8:

Brush some corn syrup at the end of the big circle and stick the stinger piece here.

Step 9:

Attach the antennas behind the small circle with some corn syrup

Step 10:

Use a black edible marker to draw out eyes and a mouth.

Step 11:

Finally, stick 2 little white heart pieces near the top for the wings.

And you are done! Let these toppers dry for an hour or two and then, place them on your cakes or cupcakes.
