I am making a cake pop wedding cake for a friend and having a difficult time finding a styrofoam cake dummy. I’ve experimented on different types of styrofoam pieces and have found that some are very hard, and some too loose. What kind of styrofoam do you use, and who is the supplier? The cake will be holding 360 cake pops, 5 tiers, so it has to be quite sturdy. The dimensions have to be 5″ high, with the tiers 8″, 10″, 12″, 14″, and 16″ diameter. I tried with a very hard piece of EPS foam and it was nearly impossible forcing the lollipop stick into the material. I’d appreciate any information or advice, thanks!

Thank you so much for sharing this. I am going to make this stand for my niece birthday party! I have a question when attaching the styrofoam cake dummies whivh size do I use first? Is the smallest one used directly under the 8 inch cake board? Please help me. Also if I wanted to make a 4 tier with a cake on top can I start with a 10 inch? Thanks.

I am going to try it for my wedding. Not getting married until summer 2015 so I have time for trial and error.

The article would be much better if you listed where to get the supplies online. Just my two cents!

How many tiers should I do?? Seeing the cost of some stands, I think it’s cheaper to make one!

I have made a few cupcake stands of my own. I think the four layer size would be better for the amount of cupcakes that you would like to make.

Can you tell me where you purchased your’s?

Thank you,

I think I’ll be making one of these for my best friend’s bridal shower coming up. I’m looking at making around 30 cupcakes for the event and I read that your 5-tier stand in the tutorial has room for 50. So do you think 3 tiers would be enough for the 30 cupcakes? or should I do 4?

Thank you so much!

I would make sure that once assembled the cake stand will not be moved around with.

You can use oilcloth as this can be wiped off with a damp cloth.

It’s seems like the paper would get ruined after one use from the icing and such.

Or would that not be sturdy enough?

Global sugar art.com have them. Some do sell 4″ high dummies so then you would only need 1 per tier. If they are only 2″ then you need two per tier and glue them together.

Hobby lobby? and is dummies the actual name for them? Just want to make sure when I ask for them. and its 2 dummies for each size correct(totalling 4 I would need)? Unless I am able to find the bigger size, then only 1 is needed for each size (totalling 2 I would need only)

You can make single tiers fro the rest of the cupcakes or place them around the cake stand on the table.
