Thanks for the question! I coated the cake in a thick layer of buttercream and then ran my spatula horizontally around the cake in rows, removing a bit of buttercream and leaving a slight indentation. I also used an 8&quot; long flat spatula which is wider than a 4&quot; spatula....So easy and no involved smoothing required.]]></description>
