They were seeking submissions of photos with decorated cupcakes, cakes and cookies for their new book: 1,000 Ideas for Decorating Cupcakes, Cakes and Cookies.
I have been lucky to receive a free copy of the Cookie Swap: Creative Treats to Share Throughout the Year book. The book immediately caught my attention, as I have never hold a cookie swap party, or been to a cookie swap party before. So I was very curious to see what this book was all about. It is written by the author Julia M. Usher who is a celebrated pastry chef, food writer and stylist. You can find eight cookie swap theme parties in the book, along with over 50 different cookie recipes. You can also find decoration and invitation ideas for the cookie swap parties aswell in this book. The great things about the book, is that I wanted to hold a cookie swap party right away, after a quick browse through the book. I love the fact, that it can be used for so much more than just cookie swap parties. Take small parts from the book and you can hold a perfect tea party, make a fantastic dessert table (just add the cupcakes) or find new inspiration for your iced sugar cookies. It also have some very sweet crafty ideas, like the gorgeous wedding cake boxes [...]

I am a big fan of Sharon from SugarEd Productions and her fantastic dvd’s. Especially the previous one Boxes & Bows wich was filled with so many tips and tricks. Well Sharon is not lazy as she is out with a brand new dvd for all of her SugarEd fans. This time it is all about the popular Topsy Turvy cakes. There are several ways this cake is made and I like Sharons and the Australian style (Madhatter) the best. So I have just placed my order for her new Topsy Turvy dvd and I cant wait to hold the dvd in my hands….. Happy Caking Louise

It was with excitement that I received the three dvd’s (Perfecting the art of buttercream, Successful Stacking and Flawless Fondant) from the talented cake designer Sharon Zambito. I decided to start off with the Flawless Fondant DVD as I decorate most of my cakes with fondant. Sharon shows how to prepare the cake so that it will not only make the covering easy but also make the cake look beautiful when it is finished. You will see what kind of equipment she is using for the job. I really love the blue silicone mat so I just had to buy one;-) Then you will be guided through different ways on how to roll out your fondant, cover the cake and how to smoothe the cake. She shows that on both round and square cakes but also on difficult shapes like petal and hexagon. You will also see how you can decorate with impression mats, crimpers and pearls to make it look even better. The part I love is where she shows how to get rid of air bubbles, white dust on the fondant and how to cover up small marks on the cake. The Flawless fondant dvd have also a [...]

This is the latest addition to my cupcake book collection and I must say it is one of the best. The author, Jennifer Graham, is the founder and owner of The Crabapple Cupcake Bakery in Melbourne, Australia. The layout of this book is beautiful with lots of photos that will tickle your taste buds to immediately go out into your kitchen and try some of the delicious cupcake recipes that you will find in this book. It has great contents where Jennifer Graham gives you nice tips on ingredients, how to decorate and what kind of tools that are important when baking cakes and cupcakes. There are 32 different cupcake recipes in the book and 5 lovely cakes to make as well. After the cake section you will find the tasty section with the delicious frostings and fillings. The book finish off with pages of suppliers through out Australia. I have now tried the vanilla and the chocolate cupcakes from the book.
The seventh book from Lindy Smith is called Cakes to inspire and desire. It is an exciting, colorful and dramatic book for the more trained cake decorator. As the cake designs are a bit more difficult to make. But that should not stop the beginner, in cake decorating, to buy the book, because you can easilly take out the more simple ideas and still make a beautiful cake. This is also the book where she reveals on how she make her Wonky Cakes. The book have more reading parts, to understand the way to construct the cakes. So it is important that you take your time to read, so that you fully understand how to do it. But Lindy has always a “shortcut” in her sleve on how to make the design more simple. It is listed with 36 unique designs in round – square and creative cakes. She also shows how to make her beautiful cake jewllery and her charming mini cakes to match the cakes. I love in particular the luxurious orchid wedding and the eastern ornament cake designs and of course the charming wonky cakes. Happy Caking! Louise

Lindy Smith’s seventh book Cakes to inspire & desire, was said to be released in the US last month?. So if you are so lucky to have it, I would love to know. The hardback version however is published in the UK here in August in a limited availability.
