4 Easy Ideas to Reuse Leftover Cake Crumbs

The holiday season is almost around the corner. For someone who loves baking, you’re probably looking forward to baking a storm to mark the celebration. You could bake cakes, cookies, puddings, pies, and lots of pastries. Perhaps, you may want to switch things up a little bit with some leftover cake crumbs.

Leftover cake crumbs are an incredibly versatile dessert addition. However, these baker’s bits almost always get trashed. Whether they are from a burnt cake or excess scraps from cake filing, your leftover crumbs do not have to end up in the garbage.

You can reuse these scrumptious bits to create several baker’s delights and satisfy your sweet tooth cravings. Or even recreate those yummy dessert ideas on Food Network.

Are you wondering what to do with your abundance of cake scraps? Here are four fantastic and easy ways to reuse your leftover cake crumbs:

1. Cake French Toast

Cake French toasts are a yummy dessert addition, and super-easy to make. Whether you want to order a cake in a restaurant or are looking for a fast homemade cake-crumb recipe, cake French toasts are your go-to option. This makes it a great brunch option if you have a few people over, or if you want to give your kids a morning treat.

If you’ve got enough crumbs for this recipe, you can also make a few different French toast flavors to mix things up.

To make a cake French toast, you will need the following ingredients:

Cake crumbs (2 cups)

Whole milk

Vanilla extract

Ground cinnamon

Salt

2 Eggs (whisked yolk)

Pinch of salt

Flavoured syrup

Fruit jam

Directions: Mix the cake crumbs, milk, vanilla extract, salt, and whisked egg in a bowl. Next, heat up the skillet to a medium-high degree. Then add enough oil to coat the bottom of the pan. Dip the batter inside the egg, and gently place it in the hot pan. Bake for about 3 minutes on each side or until it’s golden brown.

Serve immediately with maple syrup or fruit jam. If you have any leftover icing, then spread that on top, too.

This is one of the easiest ways to use leftover cake crumbs. It’s also a great way to use up any extra icing or frosting that you might have at hand.

2. Cake Shakes

Cake shakes are one of the simplest and most delicious ways to use those day-old leftover cake crumbs. Trust me, they can never go wrong.

To make this delicious recipe, you will need:

Leftover cake crumbs (1 cup)

Milk (1 cup)

Directions: Put the milk and the leftover cake crumbs in a blender. Blend them together until smooth. You could add some ice cream to the mix to make a richer shake. Then pour the shake into glasses, and serve chilled.

You can also garnish your cake crumb shakes with crushed cookies or chocolate chips. If you have a larger slice of cake for the topping just like in the image above, even better! This is a fun way to reuse leftover cake crumbs and can be made using any kind of cake.

A cake shake can also serve as a great minimalist birthday cake idea. All you need to do is to follow the same guidelines above for a richly blended cake shake. Then serve with frosted whipped cream, coloured sprinkles, and a cherry.

3. Grilled Pound Cake

If you’ve got a few larger cake crumbs and want to make something more substantial, you can make a grilled pound cake. This is a great snack or dessert when you’ve got a few people over.

For this recipe, you’ll need the following ingredients:

Leftover Cake Crumbs (2 cups)

Butter (4 teaspoons)

Sugar (2 teaspoons)

3 Eggs (whisked yolk)

Vanilla extract (2 teaspoons)

Berries and Nuts

Directions: Mix the cake crumbs with butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. You can also add some nuts or fruit to make things more interesting. Shape the mixture into a loaf and grill until it is thoroughly cooked. Serve this with frosted whipped cream and berries for a delicious dessert.

This is a great way to reuse larger portions of cake crumbs, but there are a few tips to keep in mind. Make sure the cake crumbs are broken up into small pieces before adding them to the cake batter, or they may not cook through properly.

4. Cake Crumb Pudding

Another easy peasy way to reuse your leftover cake scraps is to make a cake crumb pudding. This super easy recipe can be whipped up in just a few minutes.

To make a cake crumb pudding, you would need the following ingredients:

1 cup of milk

Sugar (3 tablespoons)

Leftover cake crumbs (2 cups)

Vanilla extract (2 teaspoons)

Salt (½ teaspoon)

3 eggs (whisked yolk)

Nuts (hazelnuts or walnuts)

Directions: Whisk or blend the milk, sugar, salts, vanilla extract, and egg. You can make this pudding any flavor of your choice, but it’s best to make one that is rich and sweet, like chocolate or vanilla. Next, add the cake crumbs and stir until you form a smooth consistency. Then, pour the mixture into an oven-proof dish or pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 35-40 minutes. You can serve it hot or cold with cream or nuts.

This makes for a great option for anyone who craves a sweet dessert and doesn’t want to make a whole cake. You can also preserve excess portions of your cake crumbs pudding in the fridge for later use.

In Closing

Cake crumbs are a byproduct of every baker’s kitchen. But they don’t always have to end up in the garbage. With hard work and creativity, you can make entirely different creations that can satisfy your sweet tooth or your loved ones’.

We’ve listed four fantastic ways you can reuse leftover cake crumbs. You can make cake French toast, grilled pound cake, cake crumb pudding, or switch things up with cake shakes.

With these yummy dessert ideas, you will never have a reason to trash your leftover cake crumbs – ever again!
