How to Make Easy Espresso Coffee Cupcakes

How To Make: Espresso Coffee Cupcakes – Easy Free Video Tutorial

Espresso Coffee Cupcakes

As this is my first post for CakeJournal.com I’d love to start by properly introducing myself!  My names Elise, I’m a cake decorator and a Mum, and I live in the Gold Coast, Australia. If you’d like to know a little bit more about me and my experience in the industry, you can see my story here illustrated in cupcakes and frosting!

I’m a new addition to the CakeJournal team and I’m really excited to be posting for all of you! My aim is to bring you new inspiration, fresh ideas and easy to follow tutorials, as well as hints and tips for making your cake decorating journey a little easier and a little less expensive.

The tutorials I’ll be posting each week will be different to what you’ve seen here in the past – I specialise in comprehensive, step by step video tutorials, which I release weekly on my YouTube channel MyCupcakeAddiction. I provide you with everything you need to know to complete each project, and I walk you through it step by step so you can achieve the same results at home.

Here at CakeJournal.com I’ll be sharing 2 of my most popular designs each week, as well as some personal favourites and great holiday ideas. I’ll also include step by step instructions and a link to the video tutorial for those of you that enjoy visual learning and want to access all the additional hints and tips that come from watching the project being created in real-time.

To kick off my first post I thought I’d share one of my latest super easy cupcake tutorials. This is a theme I think most of us will find common ground in – Espresso  Coffee Cupcakes!

Cupcakes in Disguise!

Cupcakes in Disguise!

The idea for these came about when I had some leftover takeaway coffee cups after a party (I always use takeaways to save washing up!) and I was feeling creative with a batch of cupcakes in my kitchen – Voila, the Espresso Cupcake was born!

There was a completed Espresso Cupcake on my bench when hubby came home from work and he started to give me grief about a wasted espresso – then he realized! Yes, they’re that realistic!

To get started, you’ll need to gather your tools, equipment and ingredients:

Tools, Equipment and Ingredients:

Disposable espresso takeaway cups

Piping bag

Round piping tip (the larger the better)

Spoons & Twine (optional)

Cupcakes (you’ll need 2 standard sized cupcakes per finished espresso)

Powdered chocolate or cocoa sprinkles

Espresso flavored frosting

**To make Espresso Buttercream** – Take our vanilla buttercream recipe and remove the milk & vanilla entirely.Take 4 teaspoons of instant coffee and combine with a tiny bit of boiling water. Add 1 ice cube and stir till the coffee mix is no longer boiling hot. Add 1 tbsp of the coffee mix at a time (to taste) into your buttercream frosting in place of the milk & vanilla.

If you don’t want to watch the comprehensive video tutorial, here’s the steps you’ll need to complete this awesome cupcake

Step 1:

Bake your cupcakes the old fashioned way – I recommend chocolate cupcakes as the espresso frosting compliments the chocolate beautifully.  Allow the cupcakes to cool completely and remove from their cupcake liners

Step 2:

Insert your round piping tip into your piping bag and fill your piping bag with espresso buttercream.

Step 3:

Stack your cupcakes in the cup for sizing and ensure the cake sits approx. ¼” below the rim of the cup. Trim if necessary

Step 4:

Pipe a decent sized blob of frosting into the base of the espresso cup and drop your first cupcake in, pushing down on it to allow the frosting to creep up the sides of the cupcake. Repeat with the second cupcake.

Step 5:

Taking your piping bag pipe a low smooth style swirl onto the top cupcake, ensuring the frosting does not extend over the edges of the cup.

Step 6:

Shake a sprinkle of chocolate powder or cocoa on top and serve with a spoon!

Coffee on the outside, Cupcake on the Inside!

Coffee on the outside, Cupcake on the Inside!

Your Espresso Coffee Cupcakes are complete! These are easy to transport (just pop the lid on and go) they taste amazing and they’re sure to be a hit with coffee-lovers everywhere.

I hope you love these cupcakes as much as I do, and I look forward to bringing you new and innovative tutorials twice weekly!

xxx Elise

    Hi
Looks great. You mention to use “our vanilla buttercream frosting” recipe for the frosting but there is no link to it. Where can I find the recipe for that?

    Hi,
I would really like a link to your fantastic tags/labels on the coffeecups. So I can print them on cardstock paper and use them for the birtdaysurpriseparty of my boyfriend next month. Great idea!!!!
