Cream Cheese: A Favorite Type of Icing That’s Easy to Make [3 Simple Steps]

August 13, 2015 by Louise Leave a Comment

A special thanks to Marilyn and Piece of Cake Portland for sharing this awesome recipe with us! You can contact them by phone at 503.234.9445

Cake is so fun to experiment with and it brings back memories from childhood! All of those countless times you’ve had cake fights with you siblings or even back to the first time you ever baked a cake. The best part about cakes and making cakes is finding the perfect accent… ICING!

A favorite that everyone loves is cream cheese icing! Cream cheese icing is great to use on either cakes or cupcakes and can be used to create creative colorful decor for cakes.

Cream cheese icing is absolutely delicious and super easy to add color to. Use cream cheese icing for fun, awesome cupcakes too.

Cream cheese icing pairs wonderfully on many flavors: carrot, chocolate, banana cake and more! There are so many combinations you can use to create a unique cake.

Cream cheese icing is also very easy to make, even my cat couldn’t screw it up! You can have excellent cream cheese in minutes using these 3 steps and simple ingredients… Sometimes it’s best to make things simple!

Start out by gathering the necessary ingredients.

Ingredients
  • 8 ounces of cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup butter  (take out in the morning to soften)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla (I like Mexican vanilla, but any vanilla will do the trick)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar

If you don’t have powdered sugar available, you can improvise and make it by putting granulated white sugar into a blender or food processor.

…………

Once you have the ingredients, there are 3 simple steps to creating the perfect cream cheese icing.

Instructions

1. Use a paddle on your mixer and beat the cream cheese and butter until the mixture is completely combined.

2. Add vanilla and add the powdered sugar one cup at a time, beat after adding each cup.
3. Mix in coloring if desired.
This recipe makes enough to ice one 9 inch double layer cake.
Enjoy and happy caking!!
