Making baby themed cakes is so much fun. There are so many cute details you can add to them.
Recently, I made cake for a little girl’s first birthday and I included this adorable baby bottle. The best part is that there is a hidden surprise…
The inside is filled with candies!:D
To make this baby bottle, you will need the following supplies:
White gumpaste
Pink gumpaste
Yellow gumpaste
Green gumpaste
Thick royal icing
Candies
Knife
Rolling pin
Paper towel roll
Wax paper
Tape
And here are the steps:
Step 1:
Use a knife or scissors to cut a paper towel roll, according to the size you want.
Cover the roll with wax paper and use tape to make sure it’s securely in place.
Step 2:
Brush some thick royal icing on your roll.
Roll out white gumpaste and place this roll on it.
Step 3:
Move your roll from one end to another until it’s completely covered in white gumpaste.
Cut off any excess on the sides of the roll with a knife and smooth out the joint with your fingers.
Roll excess gumpaste on top of the bottle inwards.
Step 4:
Your bottle will obviously need a base.
To make a base, roll out some green gumpaste.
Place your roll on top of it.
Cut off excess gumpaste with a knife.
Brush some royal icing at the base of the roll so that it sticks securely to the green gumpaste.
Step 5:
The base will probably be looking hideous right now…lol. Let’s fix that…
Cut a thin strip of green gumpaste and wrap it around the base of your bottle, using some royal icing.
Step 6:
Keep the bottle aside for now and let’s make the top portion of the bottle.
Make a thick round disc out of pink gumpaste. The diameter of this disc should be slightly bigger than your bottle.
Add some details along the sides by gently pressing the knife to create little “cuts.”
Tip: I made this round disc freehand but you can use a circle cutter to make this step easier.
Step 7:
Bring out some yellow gumpaste and mold it into this odd shape…
It takes a few tries to get the shape and size just right. So, hang in there 😉
Step 8:
Brush some royal icing on top of the pink disc and stick your weird yellow piece on top of it.
Roll out a thin green “rope” and stick it at the joint between the yellow and pink piece.
Step 9:
Let all these pieces dry for at least 48 hours. The time may vary depending on where you live and your weather conditions.
Once everything is completely dry, fill the bottle with candies and stick the top into place with royal icing.
If you like, you can also use a black edible marker to write numerical details on the side on the bottle. I chose not to do that coz I liked the bottle as is.
And you are done!
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
Happy caking everyone!
