How to make Giraffe cupcake toppers

by Louise Leave a Comment

Giraffe cupcakes

Animal cupcake toppers are a fun way to dress up any cupcakes. They can be used for any occasion: baby shower, birthday cakes, etc. These giraffe cupcake toppers are super cute and really easy to make.

Here is what I used:

Fondant (yellow, ivory and brown)
Rolling pin
Edible black marker
Zacto knife
Round cutter (about the size of your cupcake circumference)
Edible gum glue
Any piping tip

JEM tool – Flower Veiner # 12 (but any tool with a pointed end would work)

STEP 1:

Roll out the yellow fondant to about 1/4 of an inch. Use the round cutter and cut a circle.  This will be the base of the cupcake topper.

Step 2:

Using the yellow fondant, roll out two small balls to create the ears. Once you have made two smooth balls, use your thumb to flatten them out. Then using the end of a pointy fondant tool (here I used the JEM tool) create a pocket in the ear.

Step 3:

Roll out a medium piece of ivory fondant into a small ball. Once you have made your smooth ball, shape the ball into an oval shape and flatten with your fingers. This piece will be used for half of the giraffe’s face.

Step 4:

Using the brown fondant create two smooth tiny balls. Once the balls have been made, roll them into long elongated shapes. These will be used to create the two pieces on the giraffe’s forehead, the pieces between the giraffe’s ears.

Step 5:

Using the edible gum glue, paste on the ivory piece of fondant onto the yellow circle. Using the pointed end of a tool (or even a tooth pick), poke two holes for nostrils and a smile.

Step 6:

Using edible gum glue attach the giraffe’s ears and brown long pieces to the yellow base.

Step 7:

Using the brown fondant, create 5-8 tiny balls. Flatten the balls out and use the edible gum glue to attach to the giraffe’s face.
