Simple Monogram Cupcake Toppers

September 20, 2016 by Louise Leave a Comment

These standing fondant cupcake toppers with a monogram impression are elegant and versatile. They could be used for a wedding, bridal shower, baby shower or birthday. They must be made in advance and dried thoroughly on a parchment-lined cookie sheet to hold their shape.

This is what I used:
Work surface
Corn starch
Rolling pin
Fondant
Plastic wrap
Acrylic block*
Inkadinkadoo clear letter stamps*
2.5 inch oval cookie cutter

*These items were found in the scrap booking section of my local craft store

monogram3

Step 1: Peel the desired letter of the alphabet and firmly stick it to the acrylic block.

monogram4

Step 2: Use the corn starch to dust your work area. Roll out the fondant in your color of choice. Leave the fondant rather thick so the stamp doesn’t push trough it completely. Cover the fondant with plastic wrap. Press the stamp firmly to create several impressions. Make sure they are spaced apart.

monogram5

Step 3: Remove the plastic wrap from the fondant. Use the cookie cutter to cut out each letter impression. Allow some extra space at the bottom of the shape so the monogram is not buried in your cupcake swirl.

monogram6

Step 4: Place the toppers carefully on a parchment-lined cookie sheet and allow them to dry for a week. If you have fewer days, add some gumpaste to the fondant for a quicker drying time.

monogram7

Note how the light shines through the thin monogram section of the toppers. This really makes the letters stand out.

Once the topper have dried completely, stand them up in freshly piped buttercream and enjoy them at your special event!

Happy Caking
