How to make two peas in a pod cake topper

by Louise 3 Comments

two peas in a cake

I had a blast making these two peas in a pod.

They are great to use as cake or cupcake toppers for baby showers.

I made a pink ball and a blue ball. But, you can make 2 pink balls or 2 blue balls if the sex of the babies is already known πŸ™‚

To make two peas in a pod, you will need the following supplies:

Green gum paste
Light blue gum paste
Pink gum paste
Rolling pin
Circle cutter
Paintbrush
Water
Black edible marker

These are the steps:

Step 1:
Roll out green gum paste.

Step 2:
Use a circle cutter to cut out a piece.

Step 3:
Roll out a pink ball and a blue ball out of gum paste.
Brush some water in the center of the green circle and stick the balls here.

Step 4:
Fold the green circle in half and pinch the corners.
Brush some more water in the corners to really stick them together.

Step 5:
Use a black edible marker to draw all the facial details on these two balls.

Step 6:
To make vines, roll out thin “rope-like” pieces out of green gum paste.

Step 8:
Now, just slide the vines out of your paintbrush.
Make as many as you need.

When you your two peas in a pod has dried and hardened, place it on top of the cake and arrange these vines near the corners.

I also added little red fondant Β flowers because they looked cute πŸ™‚
