How to make zebra cupcake toppers

by Louise 1 Comment

Zebras

Animal cupcake toppers are a fun way to dress up any cupcakes. They can be used for any occasion: baby shower, birthday cakes, etc. These zebra cupcake toppers are super cute and really easy to make.

Here is what I used:

Fondant (white, black and pink)
Rolling pin
Edible black marker
Zacto knife
Metal petal cutter (size small)
Round cutter (about the size of your cupcake circumference)
Edible gum glue
Any piping tip

JEM tool – Flower Veiner # 12

Step 1:

Roll out white fondant to an 1/4 of an inch thick and use the large round cutter to make a cut. This will create the base of the Zebra.

Step 2:

Roll out the black fondant thinly. Using your Zacto knife make some thin stripes. Also make two thicker stripes. Using the edible gum glue, glue the two thicker stripes as shown in the picture below. Using the thin stripes place them on the sides of the base of the Zebra (not shown in a picture until Step 5).

Step 3:

Using the pink fondant, roll a tiny piece into a ball. Press the ball with your finger to make it flat. Then using a pointy tool or tooth pick, make two holes side-by-side. This will make the Zebra’s nose with nostrils.

Step 4:

Step 5:

Roll out some white fondant. Using the metal petal cutter, cut two pieces. This will be for the Zebra’s ears. Use an edible black marker to draw in the centres of the Zebra’s ears. Use some edible gum glue to attach the Zebra’s ears to the base of the topper.

Step 6:

Use the edible black marker to draw on the Zebra’s eyes.

They are cute indeed! And the fun part is, you can also make a giraf or whatever animal this way. A nice and yet easy way to decorate your cupcakes. Thanks for sharing your lovely idea! 🙂
