CakeJournal’s tutorials on PDF

June 2, 2010 by Louise 327 Comments

For a long time I have wanted to be able to collect all my tutorials in a folder. A folder that I could bring with me into the kitchen. Being a perfectionist and a sucker for all things sweet and pink a simple screen print could of course not do the job.

For that reason I started to looking for someone who was able to make my online tutorials into printable “works of art”. After searching the internet for a few months I almost gave up on finding someone suited for the job. Luckily for me I chose to ask Gisele Jaquenod, who has designed CakeJournal.com, if she could recommend anyone. She then told me about Martín Hoare from Themaninh and it turned out to be a perfect match.

Martín has spend the last couple of months turning the first eight tutorials into beautiful creations in PDF format ready for printing. All the tutorials has been designed with sweet illustrations to match the content of the tutorial. All tutorials also have a little note section for you to write down your own notes as you work your way through the tutorial. All new tutorials that I make on CakeJournal, aswell as the “old” will over time be available in PDF format.

ATTENTION! ALL 8 PDF TUTORIALS + THE FREE FRONT PAGE ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE TO BUY THROUGH THE CAKEJOURNAL SHOP.

The 8 first PDF tutorials available are:
How to decorate cookies with rolled fondant.
How to make a race car cake topper.
How to make gum paste strawberries.
How to make a turtle cake topper.
How to make a five petal fantasy flower.
How to make a gum paste flower.
How to make a gum paste bow.
How to make a train cake topper.

Please note that all tutorials will still be available online here on CakeJournal.com for free.

Tutorial giveaway

To celebrate the launch of the PDF tutorials I am also making a little giveaway:
3 lucky readers, will all receive the 8 first PDF tutorials. All you need to do, is telling me which of the existing tutorials you would love to see on PDF next.

I will use random.org integer generator to pick out the lucky 3 numbers and the deadline will be Thursday, June 03. 2010 at 8.00 p.m GMT+1 The lucky winners will be announced later Thursday evening. This giveaway has ended.

The lucky winners of the 8 PDF tutorials are:

Congratulations to: Jackie P, Amy Peeples and Deanna Downey!

NOTE: The giveaway competion can only be entered by leaving a comment. Any emails send directly to me will not be considered!

Happy Caking!

Jackie P: I had to go back and look what he wrote. I think that the problem with that recipe is that there are no glucose syrup. its only water and then the dry ingredients. I tried to google a rolled fondant recipe and the recipes that came up also included: gelantine, white fat and glycerin. I know that there are recipes that dont use gelantine at all. So I think that you need to tweak it by adding some glycose syrup, glycerin and some white fat along with the rest. I would add the wet ingrediens first an then the powdered sugar. Wait with the gum until you can knead the “dough”. This is the recipe: https://allrecipes.com/recipe/rolled-fondant/detail.aspx

    Hi Louise,
I have made JMR’s recipe for fondant, but somehow it sets very hard. Its great for working with but is there anything I can change in the recipe so it sets soft enough to cut?

    Thanks.

I am thrilled about the tutorials now being on PDF, that is a wonderful idea. I too dislike the look of boring old regular print outs. Those are so much prettier. The tutorial I would like to see added to PDF would be How to make poured fondant icing. I’ve always been a little intimidated to try this one.

I would love to see the sugar rose or the ribbon rose tutorial! I have been taking several cake classes and have yet to be able to perfect even a simple ribbon rose!! The fondant and gum paste are a very different consistency than I would have ever guessed before working with it!

    What a fantastic idea!

Well, seen as I’m greedy (!), i’d love to see the four-part cupcake decorating guide in PDF form. I’ve found them so useful and it’d be great to have a pretty printed copy!
